Four About Home Remedies For Heart Burn

If you are having a meal of your liking and get a heart burn during the meal or after the meal, it is a terrible situation and no one want to be in such a situation. Well, heart burn is a very common problem, which is most commonly due to GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease). There are many over-the-counter (OTC) medications easily available for heart burn, various home remedies are still worth trying for your common problem, without going to your nearest medical shop. Baking soda for heart burn:

We all have baking soda at home. It is very good for heart burn. Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is alkaline in nature and heart burn most commonly is due to acid reflux from stomach. Hence, alkaline baking soda neutralizes the stomach acid and prevent heart burn. Mix half to one teaspoonful of baking soda in a glass of water and drink for immediate relief for occasional heart burn. However, if you get heart burn regularly, you should consult your doctor and get treated for your problem without delay. Do not depend on home remedies for frequent heart burn.

Licorice for heart burn:

Licorice can help in stopping heart burn. It act by improving natural healing of stomach, hence can solve the problem of heart burn in many individuals with stomach problems. However, taking excess licorice is not free from side effects. Excess consumption of licorice can lead to high blood pressure and other side effects. Hence, avoid excess licorice. Take tablets of licorice when required, which are available at most natural food stores.

Chewing gums for heart burn:

Chewing gum after meal can help prevent heart burn, which has been seen in many studies. Chewing gum (especially sugar free gum) after meal (say for 30 minutes) increases salivary secretion and flow, which can wash away acid much faster and help prevent heart burn. Washing away of acid give relief from symptoms of GERD such as heart burn.

Aloe vera for heart burn:

Aloe plant has many medicinal properties and commonly used for many ailments, such as for cuts and burns. Taking aloe can help healing of minor erosions or cuts in stomach and prevent heart burn and GERD symptoms. Aloe vera juice is also good for reducing inflammation in esophagus and stomach, which are common in case of GERD, which cause heart burn. Taking half cup of aloe vera juice before meal can reduce heart burn and other symptoms of GERD. One should be cautious that aloe vera juice may have laxative effect and it is better to take an aloe vera product from which laxative part is removed, such as aloe vera powder.

It is good to know and use home remedies for any medical condition, but one should be careful not to replace medical advice with home remedies. If you have a medical problem, seek advice of your doctor and get treated adequately. Do not get used to only home remedies, which can be dangerous for your health.
