Some cancers can be detected earliest and best by regular self-examination, such as breast cancer, testicular cancer, prostate cancer, oral cancer etc. to name a few.

We all experience changes as we grow older. However, the changes in the body that occur during aging are different from the changes that occur due to cancer and we must learn to differentiate them. The changes occurring in various parts and organs of the body should not be taken lightly by anyone. If you have even minor suspicion about anybody change in you, you should consult a doctor without any hesitation to confirm the changes are not pathological.

Do not be ignorant, because when it comes to serious ailments like cancer, ignorance is not bliss. You may think that you are too young to have a disease like cancer. Time of diagnosis is crucial for the outcome of any cancer. Take advantage of time by regular self-examination of various body parts (breasts, oral cavity, genitals by women and testes, oral cavity etc. by men) to detect cancer at the earliest.

If small lump is detected in breast by self-examination, it can be easily removed (and biopsy done for diagnosis of breast cancer) and the removal may be curative if done very early stage of the disease. Detection of any changes in cervix by yearly PAP smear examination among women above 35 years of age is another classical example early detection of cancer. By introducing PAP smear examination among women of 35 years and more, cervical cancer is almost extinct in Western countries. Which explains benefits of self-examination and early detections.

Do not ignore early symptoms of cancer. Perform regular self-examinations for anybody changes that are occurring in your body and detect cancer early for normal life.
