Nine Tips to Prevent Nail Fungus Infection

Nail fungus infection is a common health problem. Large numbers of people are infected with nail fungus infection, especially toenail infection. It is therefore important to prevent nail fungus infection, because “prevention is always better than cure” and in case of nail fungus infection cure is also not easy (sometimes even surgery may have to be performed), although possible. There are several ways to prevent nail fungus infection, follow these preventive methods and it is not difficult to prevent nail fungus infection.

Nail fungus infection prevention tip no. 1:

Keep you nails (especially toenails) dry, clean and short (by regular trimming). Trim nails properly and remove thickened areas. Keep your hands and feet dry, especially after bath. Make sure to dry your feet, including in between toes before wearing shoes and socks.

Tip no.2:       

Wear appropriate footwear (shoes and socks) to prevent nail fungus infection. Select your shoes that can help in keeping your feet dry. Avoid rubber boots. Synthetic socks can help keep your feet dryer in compare to cotton or woolen socks and preferred. Do not use socks more than once without washing/cleaning and change them frequently. Taking off shoes occasionally is a good idea. Use of open toe shoes alternately is also another good idea to prevent nail fungus infection.

Tip no. 3:

Do not go barefoot in public places (gyms, swimming pools, locker rooms etc.) and in open fields.

Tip no. 4:

Do not forget to wash hand/feet properly, especially after touching an infected nail.

Tip no. 5:

Use anti fungal powder/spray, especially if you are at higher risk of getting nail fungus infection. Sprinkle antifungal powder or spray inside your shoes and around your feet.

Tip no. 6:

Do not trim or injure skin around your nails, because it may help spread of nail fungus. If there is any injury, treat it promptly.

Tip no. 7:

Use rubber gloves if you work for long time with water, this can help your hand from excess exposure to water. Remove gloves for sometime during work and turn the gloves inside out to prevent excess moisture from remaining in contact with your hands for long time.

Tip no. 8:

If you use artificial nails and nail polish, give up these cosmetic products if you are already suffering from nail fungus infection to prevent further nail fungus infection.

Tip no 9:

For manicure and pedicure make sure your salon uses sterilized instruments.
