What You Need to do to Quit Smoking?

Once you have decided to quit smoking with strong determination, the next question is how to quit smoking or how do you proceed to quit smoking? Tobacco or nicotine present in tobacco is the main culprit which is responsible for addiction to smoking, although there is also a strong psychological reason to smoke, such as smoking becoming part of your lifestyle. Once smoking becomes part of your lifestyle it is really tough to quit smoking unless you are more than 100% determined to quit smoking. You need to reduce dependency of nicotine and for that you need to remove nicotine from your body. You can remove nicotine from your body system abruptly or you can do so gradually over a period of few weeks to months.

If you decide to get rid of nicotine (smoking) abruptly, you may need medical attention to deal with nicotine withdrawal symptoms (which may be problematic and responsible for you smoking again and failed attempt of quitting smoking) or may need nicotine supplementation (medication). Be sure to keep your doctor ready or better to keep medication ready to use.

If you decide to remove nicotine from your body system gradually over time you can use nicotine patches on skin surface, inhalers etc. which will help to reduce the number of times you smoke (number of cigarette or cigar you smoke a day). Nicotine skin patches are placed (pasted) on a skin surface and kept id there for few days, which slowly releases nicotine over a period of few days. The release of nicotine is gradual and the quantity of nicotine release can be controlled by placing different size patch or by using higher concentration of nicotine in the patch. If any side effect or problem arises, the release or action of nicotine can be stopped by simply removing nicotine skin patch. It is convenient way of using nicotine supplementation.

Every individual is different and you may be able to quit smoking simply by stopping smoking and throwing your pack of cigarettes in the dustbin, but some people may find it really and really tough to quit smoking. As every person is different, you should consult your doctor/psychologist/psychiatrist before you actually try to quit smoking, otherwise your attempt to quit smoking may go in drain and you end up becoming frustrated. If you are not determined enough, you may fail to quit smoking again and again.

Smoking may allure you for rest of your life, especially if were a chain smoker for several years and it is really tough and may be tougher to remain smoke free for rest of your life than to quit smoking.
